The Directors



Mr. Peter Gichuru Njoka, Kenyan,  – Non Executive Chairman
Peter is a Partner at Aureos Kenya Managers Ltd. (AKML) and is based in Nairobi. He has 14 years’ private equity and corporate finance experience in East Africa. Since joining AKML in 1999, he has been responsible for recommending investments, monitoring and working on exits for a number of companies, across various sectors, in which Aureos Africa Fund (AAF), Aureos East Africa Fund (AEAF) and ACACIA Fund have participated. He holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Nairobi.  Peter is also a director of Seven Seas Technologies Ltd, Proctor & Allan (EA) Ltd and Micro Africa Ltd and some other private companies.

 

 

 

Judith W. Kibaki, Kenyan  - Non Executive Director
Judith is an economics and business administration graduate and has previously worked in Advertising Agencies as an Account Director and Market Research Manager.  Ms. Kibaki currently runs her own Marketing Consultancy firm, and is also a businesswoman.
She currently sits on the Board of Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund and Export Promotion Council.

 

Diana Bird, British – Non Executive Director
Diana is the immediate former Managing Director of Deacons Kenya Ltd, having served in that capacity from 1986 to 2003.  Prior to this she worked with the renowned Marks & Spencer chain of stores and has a wealth of experience in sourcing, buying and marketing for apparel retail across the world. She now divides her time between the Devon in the UK and Nairobi in Kenya. In her spare time she is studying for a BA in History of Art at the Bristol University.

Muchiri Wahome , Kenyan – Chief Executive Officer
Muchiri is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Deacons Kenya Limited. He has over 20 years of retail experience. Prior to this, he served as General Manager (1996 – 2002), Operations Manager (1990- 1997) and Operations Supervisor (1987 – 1990) in Deacons. He is a Non Executive Director of Scangroup, a listed company and the leading marketing and advertising agency in the region Muchiri is a holder of a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) degree from the University of Nairobi and obtained an Advanced Diploma in Management from the Strathmore Business School in 2006.  In 2009 he qualified as a Fellow of the Aspen Leadership Forum.

Pratul Shah, Kenyan  –Non Executive Director
Pratul Shah is a Chartered Certified Accountant and a Certified Public Accountant (Kenya). He trained with Coopers & Lybrand and was admitted to partnership in the firm in 1984 and continued as a partner with the merged firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers until 2000, when he resigned to pursue other interests.  He is currently an advisor to various companies in the banking, insurance, manufacturing and services sectors helping them in strategic planning and restructuring. He has vast experience in corporate finance work, which has included transaction advice on mergers, acquisitions/disposals and in raising capital through private placements, public offers and also debt funding. He is a non-executive board member of Car & General (Kenya) Limited, Coastal Bottlers Limited, Bank One Limited - Mauritius, Reliance Insurance Company (Tanzania) Limited and I&M Bank (T) Limited in Tanzania.

James Israel Olubayi, Kenyan  - Non Executive Director
James is the Group Chief Executive Officer of the three Alexander Forbes operating companies in Kenya namely:- Alexander Forbes Financial Services (EA) Limited; Alexander Forbes Risk & Insurance Brokers Limited; and Alexander Forbes Healthcare Limited.  James also has the responsibility of managing the Alexander Forbes financial services businesses in East Africa and in Nigeria.
James currently sits on a number of Boards of Directors of private sector companies including UBA Bank Kenya Limited. He is also the Liaison Officer of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in Kenya and the current President of The Actuarial Society of Kenya (TASK).

James studied actuarial science at the City University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (“FIA”)..

Kamami Christine Mweti, Kenyan  – Non Executive Director
Christine is the Partner responsible for Financial Markets comprising banking, finance and capital markets at Coulson Harney one of Kenya’s leading corporate commercial law firms. She has spent most of her professional career in the capital markets, having served as the head of the legal and compliance functions of the Nairobi Securities Exchange Limited (where she serves on the Business Development Committee), the Capital Markets Authority, Renaissance Capital Kenya Limited and Equity Investment Bank Limited.

Christine holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Bachelors degree in Law both from the University of Nairobi. She was admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya in 1997 Law Society of Kenya. She is a Certified Public Secretary (Kenya) and a member of Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya. In 2001, she trained and was certified by the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Centre for Corporate Governance a as a trainer in corporate governance and has been extensively involved in the training of directors in the areas of legal duties, accountability and reporting.

Betty Mwangi, Kenyan  – (Alternate to Charles Mwangi)
Betty Mwangi -Thuo works with Safaricom as the General Manager – Financial Services  She holds a B. Eng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the Victoria University of Manchester and an MBA from the University of Leicester - both in the UK. She is also a Chartered Marketer and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
