Deacons December sales impressive

Fashion and home products retailer deacons has seen turnover,including Christmas sales,increase this year compared with 2008 ,suggesting the economy may have turned the corner.Privately-held Deacons sees sales turnover growing 33 percent to Shs 1.6 Billion($21.24 million) this year from shs1.2 Billion in 2008.The chain's manacging director,Muchiri Wahome,said sales in the first two weeks od December were up 15 percent over the same month last year.
In July deacons said the sales in the first six months of 2009 wrer on a par with ayear earlier ,but down 8% from what it had projected .Kenya's economy grew by 1.7% in 2008 from an impressive 7.1% in the previous year after it was buffered by multiple shocks.
